Frequently Asked Questions

The following are answers to commonly asked questions about BeyonDSL. If you have a question not answered here, please contact us.

VOIP
  1. What is VOIP?

VoIP ("Voice over IP") is a general term for the routing of voice calls over the Internet. There are many popular VoIP providers such as Skype and you can use them with BeyonDSL just like with any other internet provider.

  2. What is the BeyonDSL VOIP option?

You can use any VOIP provider (such as Skype) via BeyonDSL but as with any internet service it will affect your data allowance. Our VOIP option sets up a separate, dedicated VOIP data channel that doesn’t affect data allowance. You could talk 24/7 without any effect on your connection; even if you're on a Value package and have exceeded your allowance.

Due to the special way the equipment and service must be configured we have partnered with a sole VOIP provider called FreeSpeech and sourced and tested specific equipment and services. We only support their use.

If you plan to make lots of VOIP calls then it makes sense to have a dedicated channel. If you're not sure why a separate channel could be necessary for VOIP then please review the Fair Use Policy.

  3. How do I get VOIP?

You need to configure a Package to include a subscription with VOIP and the appropriate hardware. Please read our guide "Two Steps to VOIP".
